Got home last night, went upstairs and heard a growl from the kitchen. Not really a growl, more like a complete-and-utter-disbelief-that-something-had-just-happened sound. It was Doug and he had just opened the refrigerator to start dinner only to find that SOMEONE had knocked over a jar of pickles that was in the way-way back of the fridge. Pickle juice was EVERYWHERE!!! As we emptied out the fridge to clean it, we found this natural phenomena that can only be described as hilarious! Our fridge has spuratic moments where it ices our food over (we probably should have that looked at) and this was such a time. While dripping down off the top shelf, apparently the pickle juice formed a sort of stalagmite in the bottom of the fridge. It was this frozen cone of pickle juice! It was bizarre - so OF COURSE I ran to get the camera to document this frigid refrigerator sculpture! Long story short - we've dubbed this the 'Pickle Icicle Incident', and as of right now we have the cleanest fridge in the tri-state area! (have you checked your fridge lately?)
Last summer our family modeled for an RV manufacturing company's ad campaign. We've done this before, but this was a little different because they wanted a "story shot" which is harder than a posed one since it's supposed to look comfortable and spontaneous. Well...here's the funny part. (I've included some closeups of the out-take photos because the kids are SO cute!) The day we shot this, we went to a state park for the shoot and it was nearly 100 degrees outside! They wanted the sun to look like it was close to going down for the day yet they also wanted a campfire in the photo - needless to say we were sweating our ying-yangs off!!! In between takes we all crawled into our minivan where the air conditioner was blasting and had to continuously pat our faces with paper towels to keep the sweat from dripping (Doug even had to change his shirt once) - it was HOT! What was crazy funny is that since they positioned us with the sun facing us, it's nearly impossible for you to have your eyes look naturally open because the sun makes your eyes water - and squinting wasn't an option. Soooo, the photo director had us keep our eyes closed and then he kept counting 1-2-3 and on 3 we were all supposed to open our eyes and look natural. This went on for over an hour! Try to tell your 3 year old to do that and not lose interest - and the whole time Trev had to have his face close to the fire and the poor kid was MELTING! This photo of him cracks me up because he's being such a trooper by smiling so big!
Stumbling upon these photos today just really made me laugh because that's a day that NONE of us will forget! Hopefully you've been able to laugh today too! :)
These fun little fairies are something I've carried in my shop for years. They're by a wonderful artist, Sarena, and she handmakes each of these out of paper mache and fabric. Aren't they beautiful! I almost can't stand that my website isn't up yet so that I can share everything with all of you - that's why I just HAD to post these photos today, because it's almost Spring and these fairies are just so Spring-y!! Maybe they'll make the rain go away - it's SO dreary and drippy today. I hope you all have a fantastic day skipping in between the raindrops!! I know I will!
The other night I went to bed thinking about all the work that had to be done...YESTERDAY. Ever have one of those nights? Here I was, lying in bed - no...stewing was more like it - and it wasn't accomplishing anything but keeping me from sleeping. And lately sleep is a hot commodity for me! Anyway, I got up the next morning and went through my day blah, Blah, BLAH complaining and nit-picking about everything: I got upset because I forgot to order more glass cleaning solution, then it was the fact that I'd run out of jewelry gift boxes, then I managed to get my glass and supply order called in LATE and on to TOP IT ALL OFF there's always a paper cut or something to really set me off! (I sound like a raving lunatic, but really I'm just a tired-over-taxed-under-paid-business-owner-with-too-much-on-her-plate...and NO I'm not begging for sympathy.)
To make a long story short, my mom stopped by at the end of that day to say hi and pick up something she'd left at our house. Nothing big - until she shared with me that the daughter of a close friend of our family had died. GULP! There's nothing like a dose of raw reality to put you back on track and realize that if you're loved, you're kids are healthy and you have the ability to put food on the table then you should COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS and not spend another minute belly-aching about ANYTHING!
It just kind of hit me, you know, when you stop and watch everything around you and realize that someone you care about is going through so much pain. I really kind of wanted to just reach out and touch everyone I know and love and give them the biggest hug and tell them how much they mean to me.
So, last night I lay in bed awake and thought about all the people that have been blessings to me and how I can be more of a blessing to others. It was something that was worth losing sleep over and something I want to do more of. It shouldn't take a tragedy or a death to make us clear our lives of riff-raff idleness, and I'm just feeling so sorry right now that I allowed myself to get into such a frenzy and forget about the important things in life.
I hope that whoever you are reading this, that you take a moment to think about or call someone that you love and that means the world to you and say thank you to them and let them know that they are a blessing to you. I know I am going to. We all deserve to fill our days with sunshine rather than just sitting beneath our umbrellas ASSUMING that rain is on the way.
I hope you have a wonderful day - a productive day - a day filled with blessings both far and near!
Oh me oh my! I received a little box today in the mail and got so excited! I had already told myself that if Catherine went to all the trouble to wrap this beautiful package so thoughtfully, then I would unwrap it as thoughtfully as I could - hence the step-by-step photos of my surprise package from Red Shoes!
Inside there was a beautiful slice of polka-dot soap that I'll have to force myself to use since it's almost too cute to wash with! Also a small nest of chicks that I will make a cozy home for amongst our Easter decorations this year. I have to say I'm most excited to have my kids unwrap the 'Surprize ball' - I've seen these before by never gotten one until now. The kids will think I got this just for them! (thanks Catherine! You helped me get more Mommy-brownie-points!) The ball is made of crepe paper and you unwind it and fortunes and prizes come falling out of every layer of crepe paper! There are 10 prizes in this little crepe paper ball! What fun! And in case you didn't notice, everything has a GREEN theme as Catherine so carefully selected gifts in my FAVORITE COLOR! She's sweeter-than-sweet! I can't wait to give a little package like this from my shop some day soon! Maybe for my 50th post! We'll see! Everyone check out Red Shoes and take a peek at her blog - it's the best!
Oh, and here's a little joke I heard yesterday that made me smile: What do leprechans keep on their porches? ST. PATIO-FURNITURE! :)
Happy St. Patty's Day to you all!
I am really so swamped at work right now that I can't even THINK of blogging lately...but I just had to post this EXCITING NEWS! I was picked as the winner of the Red Shoes prize drawing !!! I have GOOSEBUMPS I tell you - GOOSEBUMPS! Anyway, it's just so exciting to win (anything, after all I'm one of "those" people that never win anything) but especially that darling little red box! The news came on a day when it's dreary here and a Monday and all-together kinda blah - so another extra big YEAHHHHH!
I have to admit that I did let out a bit of a squeal (maybe it came out more like an old-lady snort) but I want to thank Catherine at Red Shoes for bringing so many people a ray of sunshine on days like today! My best to Red Shoes and to all the other bloggers that signed up for her drawing - I will share my goodies with all of you! Happy Monday to everyone!
Well, for anyone reading this blog (not that there are many of you) I've just returned from some much needed R & R in Florida! I'm trying my best to catch back up to speed with work and LAUNDRY (that should be a four-letter word!) so I haven't had time to blog. But....I wanted to at least check in and say a big HOWDY and let you know I'll be back soon! If all goes well the website for Accents will be up-and-running soon. Keep your fingers crossed!
This photo is one I took in FL while we were fishing off Grandma Pam & Grandpa Jim's pier and we were actually CATCHING fish - the birds wanted their piece of the action! They would walk right up to you and practically take the fish right out of your hand! Anyway, I'll tell more stories later, but for now it's framing, fraMING, FRAMING!!! A big HOO-RAY to all of my customers that have been in lately - you've kept the post-Christmas sales figures from plummeting! See ya!
