Did you know that this week is National Take Back Your Time Week? Does that mean that this week I was supposed to be organizing myself and working prolifically? Well, I guess I'll have to start now and do what I can in the day I have left! Quirky kind of week to observe - don't you think?!
On another note - I can't believe I haven't posted pics of the kids yet! They are my everything! They're at the shop a lot - whenever school's off or they're feeling a little yucky or just on a Saturday that they don't feel like staying home with dad. I love it when they come over and hang out with me here! Trevor is my sports fanatic (soccer & baseball), Mamie loves music and drawing, and Heidi is my budding fashionista! They're very close and they make the best Notre Dame cheering squad! We are - ND!
Oh, and here's a pic of the love of my life. He was disappointed that I hadn't put a picture of him on here yet - so here it is!Together the five of us make up the "H" family! At any given time you can see one, two, four or ALL of us at Accents (and with the dog, that makes six!) Anyway, from our family to yours - happy take-back-your-time week!
He's one of a kind - that's for sure! Today he's been following us around all day and it's grating on my nerves. His toe nails click on the hardwood floors and he's been trying to give me his doggie toys all day because he wants to play! Doesn't he understand I have to work to put dog food on the table?! A lot of times Bleecks just hangs out in one of the chairs or on the futon and keeps himself occupied. He LOVES the attention all the customers give him! At fifteen months old he's still a puppy and weimaraners are pretty rambuncious. He's named after Bleecker Street in NYC - it's got one of the primo sushi bars in town! Our friends call him "B-man". Stop by the shop sometime and say HI to him!
See, I said I would bring the camera in so you could see the tub-o-gumballs! It's an early day at the shop and I'm trying to get framing jump-started today so I can spend the afternoon reorganizing some mat samples that are a mess! This great painting is above our coffee bar and it makes me laugh! Got it at our preschool's fundraising auction this fall and it was painted by Heidi's teacher's husband. It's titled 'Teeth' and the paint is so thick that the teeth are actually almost three dimensional! CUTE!!
Can you tell by this photo what music I'm listening to?
I'm sure I'll halt work later to fill in with some more pics - I'm such a visual person, aren't you? I'm that person that can't retain someone's name for the LIFE OF ME but I can tell you what the last piece of artwork was that I framed for them and rattle off the mats and frame used because I can picture it all! Is it a gift or a curse?!
It's snowing lightly right now and the sun's not up yet. It's so cold out right now that your nose freezes the moment you take a breath outside - good morning new day!
Today I'm going through gumballs at warp speed! I keep a tub-o-gumballs (the itsy-bitsy cute brightly colored kind) in my workroom and whenever I'm working hard on something, or am stressed, I chew gum. After about 5 minutes these little stress-busters loose all flavor and resemble something of a gooey, chalky mess...so into the trash they go and two more get popped into my mouth. You'd think I was trying to quit smoking or something but I don't even smoke! I think that somewhere deep in my brain I think I'll work faster and better on a project if I chew faster on my gum or something....who knows.
Today is one of those days where although work gets done my 'to do' list doesn't seem to shrink. That's just messin' with my mind! I guess I'll just stay and work extra late today - did I mention that my youngest, Heidi, is here at the shop with me today since she's sick. Sick being the operative word here since she ran a slight temp yesterday at preschool and since there's a 24-no-fever rule she's here. I respect the rule (and love our preschool: CCYC RULES!!!!) but the rule sometimes stinks none-the-less. Seems like kids can fever over nothing these days and be fine but 'what to do' when you're the momma who gets no work done the whole day?!
I'm rambling, I know!
I gotta bring my camera back into work so I can send you all fine photos of my gumballs and such. Ewww, that sounded wrong. Sorry. No wrong intended.
blog at ya later!
I was beginning to wonder if any of the wonderful cold white stuff would ever stay on the ground!! Here in Indiana you actually EXPECT snow by November (if not sooner) and we haven't had any stay around until now! Whew! Maybe we'll actually get some mileage out of the kids sleds - and I'd LOOVVVEEEE to get some skiing in sometime! Makes me smile inside!
OK - so last week was a rough one. Sorry it seemed to ebb into by blog...I can be dramatic at times and things are just hectic lately and it all came to a horrendous emotional pileup on Friday. Eeeek! (that's my take on the sound of brakes coming to a screeching halt)
anywaayyy...it's a new week and there's snow on the ground FINALLY! I hold high hopes for accomplishing major things and being more joyful overall! Can I hear a collective "YEAH!" Oh, and I have to mention that I CAN'T WAIT for that new movie with Diane Keaton to come out in a few weeks! It's called something like "I told you so" or "Because I said so" - I don't remember exactly but I think I'm going to call a few girlfriends and see if they want to go (as my manly-man is too MANLY to view this 'chick-flick') or so he claims! Love you snookie-pookie! hope he doesn't read that......
Happy Monday to all, and to all a great week!
The kids wanted to see me type something on the blog about the photoshoot we did this morning so HERE IT IS! It's Saturday morning and we just wrapped up a shoot with our kids and Bleecker. It was a lot of work but it was also a lot of fun! I will post one of the photos in a day or so - you won't believe the mess we made! (It was all done to show the durability of the finish on a new line of furniture that one of our clients designed. You see, in addition to owning and running Accents, I also do freelance work for Identity which is a graphic design/advertising company that my partner, Doug, owns.)
The kids are pros at this sort of thing as we've used them before, but this was the first time the dog was in the photos! For our kids ages 8, 6 & 4 it's a great way to have them practice the art of 'listening to directions'. All the kids were awesome today! Alyna & Ethan were great too! Yeah guys!!!!
Business isn't easy - heard that enough times to get it through my head. Life isn't easy - ALSO heard that enough times. Today WASN'T EASY. It isn't even over yet, so there are still more opportunities for it to be UNEASY. yeah........
I've spent most of the day in tears. It's what we undermedicated, overly hormonal women do every now-and-then. It's kind of like an eraser for the dry erase board of emotions - it cleanses.
I wonder how long I'll be in business, which is pretty rough since I've been doing his for over four years and the business has been here for over seventeen...
I don't take charity - I work for everything I have. I love what I do but barely pay the bills doing what I love. Talk about a 'catch 22'. Geez!!! Let's be real people, there's no pill or supplement they make for this. We all have our days and today is mine!
For anyone bothering to read this: to worry about me would be trivial - it won't solve my woes nor will it make me feel better to know YOU'RE in knots too. To those who say I should 'deal with it' and move on, I offer you to wear my shoes for a day and see if 'dealing with it' is so easy. And to those souls who may be amiss at what any of this is about, I say have a nice day and practice the art of compassion at least once today, if it not be for me, let it be for someone else.
I await a ray of sunshine. Until then.
This morning we got to work and went to get the dog out of the back of the car and found the reason our rear window defroster didn't work the other day - THE DOG ATE THE WIRES!!! Yup, that would be Bleecker, our sixteen month old weimaraner. He is the shop dog and comes to work with us every day - heck, he goes EVERYWHERE with us! Anyway, after a few choice words and a little electrical tape we have things temporarily fixed.
I forgot the camera AGAIN so I won't be trying to post any photos today, but I intend to very soon! That way you'll be able to see a pic of the wire-eating-culprit.
